Forever Plaid Still Entertains On Revisit At FMPAT

By:

On December 16, I paid a second visit to Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre's production of Forever Plaid, which I had first seen on October 28, to see how the show was faring.  I am happy to report that the musical remains the entertaining experience I first reported it to be.  If anything, the comic interplay between the four performers has gotten broader with greater reaction from the audience.

This time around, the four performers who played the Forever Plaid group functioned more as one cohesive unit.  All four Plaids blended nicely together as a team in numbers such as "Moments To Remember" and "Catch a Falling Star."  Moreover, each Plaid had his moment in the spotlight with accomplished backup being provided by his three group-mates.  A perfect example of this was when Jacob Villareal sang "Sixteen Tons" with skilled assistance from the other Plaids, including musical accompaniment from Doug Miller as baritone Sparky.

Unfortunately, the pacing at the performance I viewed was uneven at times.  The capsule performance of "The Ed Sullivan Show," which went so well the first time I saw the show, missed the second time I was at Forever Plaid.  The split-second timing the bit requires was missing, and some of the hilarity vanished as well.

But overall Forever Plaid still makes for splendid entertainment.  If you've seen it before, you will still enjoy the Christmas Medley the Plaid now sings as an encore.  Forever Plaid continues at the Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre through December 23.  For more information, please visit the theatre's website.
