Ford's Theatre Begins 'Christmas Carol' Nov. 15

By:

Ford's Theatre will kick off the holiday season with its annual production of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas on November 15th.

Michael Wilson's stage adaptation of Dickens's classic novel will feature Richard Poe as Ebenezer Scrooge. Poe recently appeared in the Roundabout revival of The Pajama Game. His other Broadway credits include M. Butterfly, 1776, Moon Over Buffalo, and Our Country's Good.

"Ford's unique production of A Christmas Carol includes an appearance by Charles Dickens, who visited Washington during the public reading tour of the novel. But the spotlight shines most brightly on the three ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, who bear a striking resemblance to the victims of Scrooge's daily wrath," state production notes.

Although it is commonly referred to as A Christmas Carol, Dickens actually called his work A Christmas Carol:  A Ghost Story of Christmas.

In addition to Poe, other cast members include Clinton Brandhagen, Michael Bunce, Michael John Casey, Teresa Castracane, Elliot Dash, Jaclyn DiLauro, Carlos Gonzalez, Michael Goodwin, Bill Hensel, Katie Kleiger, Amy McWilliams, Claudia Miller, Kip Pierson, Suzanne Richard, Todd Scofield, and Erin Sloan.

During the run of A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas, Ford's Theatre will host six Opening Act Workshops where students and teachers explore key themes, relationships, and issues of the play through interactive exercises, improvisation, and discussion.

The show will run November 15th through December 30th. There will be audio described performances on Tuesday, December 12th at 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 17th at 2:30 PM. There will be ASL performances on Sunday, December 10th at 2:30 PM and Tuesday, December 19th at 7:30 PM.

Tickets are $30 to $55. Tickets are available online at www.fordstheatre.org, in person at the box office, or by calling (202) 347-4833.
