Folk Singer John Roberts Performs at Sentinels on the Sound July 3

By:

Renowned sea-shanty singer, John Roberts will play a free concert on Sunday, July 3, at 2pm, in the beautiful outdoor oasis that is the Hygienic Art Park in downtown New London (83 Bank Street). Called "one of folk music's most beloved voices" by Sing Out! magazine, John Roberts' fare includes traditional English folk songs, sea shanties of the North Atlantic, and traditional drinking songs. Sponsored by Hygienic Arts, the New London Maritime Society and the Connecticut Humanities Council*, the concert is FREE and open top the public.

Bring a lunch and friends and enjoy this great opportunity to see a true National Treasure perform.

Why not make a day of it! John Roberts' performance is just one highlight of Sentinels on the Sound, July 1 through 3. Join us when New London hosts a city-wide weekend of lighthouse exhibitions, tours and special events. And for the first time, ever, the public will be allowed to step inside all three lighthouses in New London Harbor: Avery Point, Ledge, and New London Harbor Lights.

Experience lighthouses by boat, by bike, in discussions, in art, through history, through science, and from the inside looking out. Special events include a Shoreline Lighthouse Bicycle Tour, Sentinels on the Sound discussions, a Lighthouse Cake Competition, Sea Shantyman John Roberts in concert, Art Exhibitions & more.

On Sunday, July 3, in addition to John Robert's concert, you also may take Bike New London's Shoreline Lighthouse Bicycle Tour, hop on a Project 'O' boat (leaving from New London's Custom House Pier) to tour Ledge Light, visit the Lyman Allyn Museum for free, tour inside New London Harbor Light, climb up Avery Point Light in Groton, visit the Noank Historical Society and learn about Morgan Point Lighthouse, walk the grounds of Mystic Seaport and see the lighthouse exhibit (free after 5 PM), and attend a concert on Stonington Lighthouse grounds at 6 PM.
