'Fiddler' Star Small is 'Not Quite an Ingenue,' 8/16-23
Acclaimed singer and actress Neva Small will bring her one-woman show "Neva Small: Not Quite an Ingenue" to the Actors Temple Theatre. Previews begin on Thursday, August 16th, opening night is set for Thursday, Aug 23rd. Pamela Hall (Annulla at St. Luke's Theatre, Trolls at the Actor's Playhouse) directs.
"Broadway and film star Neva Small whimsically traces the highlights of her life through the music that has carried and nurtured her professionally and personally. An entertainment that offers some comfortable memories and more than a few surprises, all delivered with the intimacy and joy of a seasoned performer. Songs are woven together with stories from her life and amazing career as a performer on stage and screen," as described in press notes.
Neva's signature role of "Chava" in the film version of Fiddler on the Roof ensured the inclusion of "Matchmaker" and "Sunrise, Sunset," along with songs from the many Broadway and off-Broadway shows she's been associated with, including Henry Sweet Henry, The Prince of Grand Street, Something More, The Threepenny Opera, Styne After Styne, Something's Afoot, The Impossible Years, Show Me Where the Good Times Are, and Leonard Bernstein's "Mass." "Not Quite an Ingenue" will also feature songs written by Stephen Schwartz, Leonard Bernstein, Marilyn and Alan Bergman and Bob Merrill.
Recently, Small co-starred with Michael Feinstein at Carnegie Hall and was guest artist with the Walla Walla Symphony for an evening celebrating the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Her first solo CD "My Place in the World", went on to become a top-selling Broadway vocal music CD. The original cast recording of "Neva Small: Not Quite an Ingenue" has just been released, details are on her website, www. NevaSmall.com. Her television appearances have included roles on "Law & Order" and the NBC production of "The Hijacking of the Achille Lauro."
The show will begin previews on Thursday, August 16th; opening night is scheduled for Thursday, Aug 23rd at 8pm. Tickets are $45 and may be purchased by calling Telecharge at (212) 239-6200, or online at www.telecharge.com.
