Farley Granger Appears in L.A. to Promote Memoir, 6/28

By:

Farley Granger, a popular leading man from the Golden Age of Hollywood, will appear in Los Angeles next month to celebrate the release of his new memoir.  The event will take place on Thursday, June 28th, at 7:30 p.m. at A Different Light Book Store (8853 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA).

Press materials state, "He worked, lived and learned with the legends, and along the way, made history himself. Mr. Granger and his co-author, Robert Calhoun, will be appearing at A Different Light Bookstore while in Los Angeles to promote this disarmingly candid book , entitled Include Me Out, about Mr. Granger's life during Hollywood's Golden Age."

"Signed to a contract with Samuel Goldwyn at age 17 (his mother had to accompany him on the lot because he wasn't legal yet), Granger began his career as the juvenile lead in a series of war pictures.  In the years following, Granger graduated to darker roles, including Alfred Hitchcock's Rope and Strangers on a Train; romantic roles in They Live By Night and Side Street; and even musicals like Hans Christian Anderson and Small Town Girl.  After winning his on-going battle with Goldwyn to be released from his contract, Granger frequently worked on television (for which he was honored with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.)  On Broadway, he starred in productions of The Seagull, The Crucible, The Glass Menagerie, Deathtrap and even a musical version of Pride and Prejudice.  One of his favorite stage experiences was tackling the tile role in the City Center revival of The King and I opposite Barbara Cook.

With his candid memoir, Include Me Out, Granger reflects on his professional, public and private lives including his then-taboo bisexuality. He describes his relationships with men and women and how they affected his life and career."

"I had no interest in becoming a household name or in playing by the rules of the game to become a movie star," Granger writes, "I was following my heart and doing what I had to do."
