'Family Guy Live' to Perform in Chicago in September

By:

The wildly popular cartoon satire "Family Guy" will soon be hitting the road, performing two shows in Chicago on September 15th, reports Variety.

Family Guy Live, which was previously seen in Montreal, at the Just for Laughs Festival, as well as in Los Angeles and New York, will feature the talents of Seth McFarlane, the show's creator/star, as well as cast members Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Seth Green and Mike Henry.  They will perform musical numbers from the show, and the event will also include a table read of a "Family Guy" episode, a cast Q&A and a preview of the "Family Guy" season premiere, which will be Star Wars-themed.

Family Guy Live will play the Chicago Theater.  According to the article, the "location was chosen because Windy City-based Tribune will launch the "Family Guy" syndie strip on its O&Os (including KTLA, Los Angeles; WPIX, New York; and WGN, Chicago) next month...Twentieth TV is looking to events like Family Guy Live and the show's season premiere on Fox to generate noise for the show's syndication launch. The syndicator has created an advertising blitz that includes outdoor billboards and bus shelter ads that ironically pair "Family Guy" characters with catchy lyrics from hit songs like 'Don't Cha' (for Stewie), 'Milkshake' (for Peter Griffin) and 'Rehab' (for Brian)."

"Family Guy" premiered on FOX in 1999 and experienced cancellations in 2000 and 2002 before finally returning with a vengeance in 2005, concerns the dysfunctional Griffin family of Quahog, Rhode Island.  "Cutaway gags," non sequiturs, fantasy sequences and musical numbers sprinkle its plotlines, which involve such characters as lazy, dim Peter Griffin and his potentially matricidal, hyper-articulate infant son Stewie.

Just For Laughs will produce Family Guy Live in Chicago alongside 20th Century Fox TV.
