FRIGID New York presents Fishbowl, the exciting debut from promising Toronto-based talent Mark Shyzer. The U.S. premiere of Fishbowl, written and performed by Mark Shyzer, and directed by Evalyn Parry, will run from February 24 to March 7, 2010 at The Red Room.
Shockingly funny and equally moving, Fishbowl slyly reveals the connections between five wildly different (and outrageously hilarious) characters, all played by Shyzer: a nerdy schoolgirl obsessed with physics, a nihilistic teenage hipster, a gin-soaked divorcee, a perky aerobic dance instructor and an octogenarian with an odd sense of humour.
Originally developed through the Buddies In Bad Times Young Creators Unit in Toronto, Fishbowl premiered in April 2009 as part of Buddies' season. Critics were unanimous: "Shyzer has talent" (Glenn Sumi, NOW Magazine). The Toronto Sun's John Coulbourn called the show "an impressive bit of character writing, packaged up and beautifully performed in a delightful little show", and Byron Laviolette from Eye Weekly admired a script "crammed with word play and droll observations".
Fishbowl runs February 24 to March 7, 2010 at The Red Room, located at 85 East 4th Street
(3rd Floor), between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Tickets are $15 general admission, and $12 students/seniors/military. Tickets are available in advance online at www.smarttix.com, by
