Manila, Philippines, January 18, 2013 -- Tanghalang Ateneo presents "The King of the Birds," an enchanting Persian fable turned into a stage play, at Ateneo de Manila University's Rizal Mini Theatre from Thursday, January 17 to Saturday, February 2.

2012 Gawad Buhay Outstanding Original Script awardee, Ron Capinding, directs the campus-based production.

According to its production notes, "The King of the Birds" stems from Sufism, a worldview that antedates Islamic teachings. The birds' perilous journey becomes a metaphor for people's quest for meaning and the discovery of a truth.

The play's ending provides a metaphysical answer to humanity's redemption from ignorance, fear, and bitter conflict.
