FREAKY FRIDAY, THE JUNGLE BOOK, Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, DUMBO & FATHER OF THE BRIDE in the Works for Disney Theatrical

Variety has revealed an extremely large slate of productions in development by Disney Theatrical Productions for potential Broadway and regional bows. 

On the list for Broadway - Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, which they report Burton will oversee along with multiple BEAUTY & THE BEAST vets including set designer Stan Meyer, director Robert Jess Roth, choreographer Matt West, Linda Woolverton bookwriter, Richard D. Zanuck co-executive producing and Basil Twist in talks to create the puppets. 

DUMBO is in the works with a book by Michael Chabon, director Stephen Daldry and choreographer Peter Darling with Bob Crowley designing. 

FATHER OF THE BRIDE is in development as well with Bartlett Sher on board to direct. 

For regional productions and licensing deals, they're working on FREAKY FRIDAY with music by Ryan Scott Oliver, book by Bridget Carpenter and Christopher Ashley directing with its first performance at La Jolla Playhouse in 2012. JUNGLE BOOK will be written and directed by Metamorphoses' Mary Zimmerman

They're also reportedly working on new versions of THE LITTLE MERMAID with a new creative team including book writer Doug Wright, designer Bob Crowley and director Glenn Casale, and a new THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME being worked on by Stephen Schwartz

These new announcements join the previously in development NEWSIES and ALADDIN. 

THE LION KING continues to reign as one of the most popular shows around the world. The global phenomenon can currently be seen on Broadway, on stages across North America and in Las Vegas, London, Hamburg, Tokyo and in March 2011, a new production will bow in Singapore. Globally, 17 productions of THE LION KING have been seen by more than 54 million people, and grossed over $4.2 billion to date. Now in its 14thyear, THE LION KING is the seventh longest-running musical in Broadway history and one of only five productions in theatre history to play for ten years or more both on Broadway and in the West End.

With four productions currently running on three continents, MARY POPPINS is one of the biggest stage musical successes to emerge from London or New York in recent years. Worldwide to date, the show has grossed over $457 million and welcomed 6.4 million guests. The musical is the winner of 24 major theatre awards around the globe, including Tony®, Olivier and Evening Standard awards.
