Follies just took its final Broadway bow yesterday, January 22, and according to the New York Times, despite its extended run, the show failed to recoup its initial investment. Michael Kaiser of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts told the Huffington Post that 'while the production did not recoup its full investment on Broadway, it did far better financially than I had planned.'

He added: 'But for me, ‘Follies’ is representative of the large-scale, ambitious, risky project that arts organizations need to produce if they are to capture the imagination of new and diverse funders and audience members. It also demonstrates the benefits of long-term artistic planning.'

Performances began on Sunday, August 7th for James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's FOLLIES, directed by Eric Schaeffer, with choreography by Warren Carlyle and music direction by James Moore. The production finishes performances on Broadway today, prior to a spring limited run in Los Angeles. Get a look back at FOLLIES' journey to Broadway, from its Kennedy Center run onward, below!

In FOLLIES, when former members of the "Weismann Follies" reunite on the eve of their theatre's demolition, two couples remember their past and face the harsher realities of the present. Reminiscing about their younger selves and the years gone by, the crumbling theatre brings back memories for both couples of good times and bad. Containing such well-known songs as "Broadway Baby," "I'm Still Here," "Too Many Mornings," "Could I Leave You?" and "Losing My Mind," "Follies" echoes the songs, exuberance and romance of the vaudeville days between the two World Wars.

It was recently announced that this Kennedy Center production of James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's FOLLIES on Broadway will transfer to the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for six weeks only, May 3 through June 9, 2012. The opening is scheduled for May 9. For tickets and more information, visit www.CenterTheatreGroup.org/Follies or call (213) 972-4400.
