FMPAT Holds Auditions For 2009 Production Camp 2/28

Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre recently announced that it is holding Early/Pre-Auditions for current & returning(alumni of previous YATP camps) for it's 2009 Production Camp. Auditions begin on Saturday, February 28th.

Summer Camp is a tremendous experience for serious, experienced, and mature young artists. Campers work a full schedule in production of a musical. Professional area music directors and choreographers come in to work with the youth in an exciting, intense few weeks of theatre. Campers will also experience technical theatre, design and management opportunities. Camp includes full production process, including music, choreography and scene work, as well as technical opportunities. Camp openings are extremely limited, and open first to current students, and then to new students each year.

Auditions: All youth and teen, current or new students, ages 10 - 18 must audition for the camp. Only a limited number of campers will be accepted, depending on the production for that summer's camp experience. Summer production camps are geared towards intermediate and advanced students ready to work in principal roles as all of the camp roles are either leading or supporting.

Candidates should prepare one song (16 - 32 bars), and bring a current photo and resume/bio. For this year's auditions, a selection composed by Stephen Sondheim or in the style of his music is preferred. A parent or guardian must either attend the auditions or return with the candidate a completed and signed audition form/authorization to audition. Forms will be available at the auditions, or contact our office to have one emailed to you in advance.

Candidates whom cannot audition in person, can submit their audition via VHS tape, digital video posting via email, or DVD audition. Please record the 16 bar song selection and clearly label it with candidates name and contact information (Name, Parent's Name, Address, Phone #, Email). Also, include a short resume/bio. Early/Pre-Auditions for Current & Returning Students (Alumni of previous camps) begin on Saturday, February 28th.

Auditions for New Students & call backs will be held on Saturday, March 7th.

Auditions for New Students for any remaining openings, on a space available basis will be held on Saturday, March 28th.

Our annual Summer Production Camp will be held June 22 - July 18 for 2009. Currently slated for the 2009 Production Camp is INTO THE WOODS by Stephen Sondheim. This production is subject to change if after the production team evaluates the auditions it is deemed appropriate to select a different musical to better feature the talents of the candidates reviewed.

The YATP Summer Camp experience is one-of-a- kind. Our young performers achieve & learn more than they ever thought possible in just the 3-4 week period of camp and emerge stronger performers and more self confident individuals with a great credit on their resume.

We train Triple Threats! We believe in training "whole artists" capable of really working in the demanding and competitive industry of performing arts. Students completing our programs will be trained to sing, dance and act as well as possess the technical theatre and theatre management skills necessary to get jobs in the arts. Whether the students ultimately pursue a career in the arts or not, the skills and discipline that they will learn in our program will aid them in many aspects of their life from art appreciation, to self-discipline, to public speaking. It is no surprise that our students are often honor roll pupils in their academic studies as well. In study after study, arts enrichment has been proven to aid in the academic development of children. Whether singers, dancers, actors, doctors or rocket scientists, our pupils will gain life skills.

FMPAT's mission is to develop cultural growth in North Texas, with an emphasis in Flower Mound by challenging audiences through presentation of new, diverse, and classic theatrical productions for both adults and children; raising awareness of important issues through performance; fostering the educational development of future artists; and preserving the heritage of live theatrical performances for both current and future generations.
