Local artists connect and contribute at the FAB Café run by arts service non-profit Fourth Arts Block (FAB), bringing a unique creative energy to the East Village. At the Festival of Ideas for the New City on May 7 2011, a mobile version of FAB Cafe will supply delectable snacks & MUD coffee accompanied by a free, hand numbered, limited edition art trading card. Eco-conscious coffee lovers will be able to, for the first time, purchase FAB Cafe travel mugs filled with a free cup of robust MUD coffee inside.
As iconic as the New Museum is for the re-birth of the Bowery, FAB is an iconic institution of the East Village's spirit of both community and independence. At the festival FAB hopes to showcase their latest endeavors, limited edition art trading cards promoting the arts organizations of the East Village and their 6 month old cafe and its new role as concessionaire for neighboring theaters. All of FAB's efforts ultimately lead back to sustaining and building the community of artists and their art in the East Village.
"...Community building is one of the reasons New York Theater Workshop is teaming up with a local restaurant, said William Russo, the theater's managing director. In keeping with the spirit of the neighborhood there's no signed contract with Fab Cafe, which is run by the nonprofit Fourth Arts Block, which administers the block long East Fourth Street Cultural District." - New York Times.
