According to Entertainment Weekly, stage and screen star F. Murray Abraham has signed on to appear in the second season of Showtime's 'Homeland.' Abraham will star as 'a brilliant intelligence operative in his 60-70's. He has worked all over the world for the Special Activities Division of the CIA.'

Perhaps best known for his Oscar-winning performance in Amadeus, Abraham's film credits include: Scarface, The Name of the Rose, Mighty Aphrodite, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Finding Forrester.

Abraham has focused on stage work throughout his career, giving notable performances as Pozzo in Mike Nichols's production of Waiting for Godot, Malvolio in Twelfth Night for the New York Shakespeare Festival, and Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, for the Off Broadway Theatre For A New Audience (TFANA) in March 2007, which was performed at the Duke Theatre in New York and also at The Swan Theatre, part of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

HOMELAND returns for its second season debut on Sunday, September 30th at 10 p.m. ET/PT only on SHOWTIME.

HOMELAND was nominated for nine Emmy Awards, the most nominations of any freshman series this year, and the most nominations ever for a SHOWTIME series. The series stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Damian Lewis, Emmy and Tony® Award winner Mandy Patinkin, Morena Baccarin, DIEGO KLATTENHOFF, Jackson Pace, MORGAN SAYLOR, Jamey Sheridan, David Marciano and Navid Negahban.

Developed for American television by HOWARD GORDON and ALEX GANSA and based on the original Israeli series "Prisoners of War" by GIDEON RAFF, the one-hour drama series tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of U.S. soldier Nicholas Brody (Lewis) was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. Along with Gansa and Gordon, the executive producers for season two are GIDEON RAFF, Michael Cuesta, Alex Cary, Chip Johannessen, Henry Bromell, Meredith Stiehm, Avi Nir and Ran Telem. The series is produced by FOX 21.
