Exclusive Breaking News: Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams Will Lead AIDA at the MUNY Image

Multiple Grammy® Award-wining artist, Michelle Williams, of the internationally renowned recording group, Destiny's Child, will star in the title role of The Muny's 2016 production of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, August 8 - 14. The Muny's production of Aida is directed by Matt Lenz and choreographed by John Rua with music direction by Andrew Graham.

"We're thrilled Michelle will star as our Aida," said Muny artistic director and executive producer Mike Isaacson. "It is one of the most iconic roles in contemporary musical theatre, and I can't wait to see her create her particular brand of musical magic on the Muny stage."

Michelle Williams joined the record-setting R&B/pop female group Destiny's Child in 1999. A string of hit singles such as "Say My Name," "Independent Women Part 1," "Survivor" and "Bootylicious" spurred worldwide album sales of 50 million and numerous awards. In 2002 Williams embarked on a solo career starting with the release of her debut album, Heart to Yours, followed by Do You Know (2004), Unexpected (2008) and Journey to Freedom (2014). Between recording projects, Williams began honing her acting skills with a theatrical stage debut in 2003 in the title role of the hit Broadway musical Aida. Williams has since appeared in productions of The Color Purple, Chicago and Fela!. Recently Michelle has co-hosted ABC Television's The View, launched reality show Fix My Choir on the Oxygen Network and gave a special performance at The White House for President and Mrs. Obama.

Aida is sponsored by Edward Jones.
