Exclusive Annie Leibovitz Dance Photography Exhibit Extends At Jacob's Pillow

This exclusive exhibit reflects acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz's interest in dance and movement through a unique collection of 320 photographs, some never before displayed or published.
On display at Jacob's Pillow, America's longest running dance festival, the exhibit is open to the public Tuesdays through Sundays throughout the Festival. Photographs include dancers such as Suzanne Farrell, Darci Kistler, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Paul Taylor, Merce Cunningham, and David Parsons, as well as performers in other fields. Among the lesser-known figures is the artist's mother, Marilyn Leibovitz, who inspired her daughter's love of dance.One section of the exhibit reflects Leibovitz's long professional relationship with choreographer Mark Morris and highlights a 1990 residency by the group co-founded by Morris and Mikhail Baryshnikov, the White Oak Dance Project. Leibovitz has worked with Mark Morris and his company on numerous occasions, and has conceived this exhibition especially for the Pillow to salute the 30th anniversary of the Mark Morris Dance Group. The Mark Morris Dance Group will perform at the Pillow August 24-28 and Morris will discuss his past collaborations with Leibovitz in a free PillowTalk on Thursday, August 25 at 4pm. Annie Leibovitz: Annie Leibovitz's large and distinguished body of work encompasses some of the most well-known portraits of our time. Leibovitz began her career as a photojournalist for RollingStone in 1970, while she was still a student. In 1983, when she joined the staff of the
revived Vanity Fair, she was established as the foremost rock music photographer and an
astute documentarian of the social landscape. At Vanity Fair, and later at Vogue, her work
with actors, directors, writers, musicians, athletes, and political and business figures, as
well as her fashion photographs, expanded her collective portrait of contemporary life.
Leibovitz has published several books and has exhibited widely. She is a Commandeur in
the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and has been designated a Living Legend by the Library
