Englert Announces 99th Anniversary Events

The Englert Theatre celebrates the 99th Anniversary of its historic building with a three-day event filled with performances and discussions October 6-8, 2011. A special, Intimate at the Englert performance by one Iowa's hardest working bands. After spending a year on the road touring behind two critically-acclaimed records -- Sad Sour Future and Stranger Ballet -- the Poison Control Center return to their native Iowa and will grace the Englert's stage with a special performance of material specifically curated for the Englert's 99th Anniversary event. One of the most celebrated country-folk performers, singer/songwriter Iris DeMent returns to the Englert stage for an unforgettable night of music. The Grammy-nominated artist has collaborated with country man John Prine on his 1999 album, In Spite of Ourselves. Iowa City-based Alexis Stevens will open the evening. (event details)

A Series of Panels on Iowan Artists
Saturday, October 8 - afternoon / free

Several Iowan artists will gather to talk on panels revolving around different mediums of art: visual art, music, and theatre arts. Expect lively discussions that will include a number of key figures in Iowa's various artistic circles. More information coming soon!

Pieta Brown is a striking poet-songwriter with a haunting voice and an unmistakable style.
