Emmy Award-winning Broadcaster John Callaway Dead At 72

Emmy Award-winning broadcaster John Callaway has passed away. The noted journalist died June 23 from a heart attack. He was 72 years old. Callaway is the father of Broadway performers Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway.
John Callaway was the longtime host of WTTW-Channel 11's news program Chicago Tonight, a show he founded and hosted for 15 years before retiring from the job in 1999. His retirement did not last long, though, as he returned to WTTW a year later as host of the station's Chicago Stories documentary series. Later, he hosted Friday Night, a segment of Chicago Tonight that featured in-depth interviews with people in the news.
The legendary Callaway won more than 60 awards over the course of his career, including the Peabody Award and seven Emmy Awards.Callaway is survived by two daughters, Liz Foster Callaway and Ann Hampton Callaway, from a previous marriage. He was also stepfather to four of Sandra Callaway's children, she said. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
