On December 5th Emily Bergl, star of Broadway, films and "Desperate Housewives," will release a live album of her hit Oak Room performance. "Emily Bergl Live at the Algonquin: Kidding on the Square" will be available on Amazon and iTunes, and commemorated with a special CD release party at the Oak Room. "Kidding on the Square" was originally recorded during a sold out run, which received raves from audiences and critics. Stephen Holden of the NY Times described Ms. Bergl as "incandescent...a gust of fresh air that could knock you off your feet," and Will Friedwald of the Wall Street Journal declared that "in her major-league nightclub debut, Ms. Bergl has hit a home run." By popular demand, Ms. Bergl will reprise the show on Monday nights, December 5th though the 19th. A limited number of tickets are available for the official CD Release Show on December 5th.
“Kidding on the Square,” directed by Sarna Lapine, is a vintage cabaret with a distinctly modern edge. Jonathan Mastro, composer of the hit NY revival of "Our Town," musical directs and accompanies on the piano. From the classic hits of the 1920's and 30's to surprising retakes on modern pop, Ms. Bergl does it all. The show runs the gamut from playful to tearful, and from naughty to nice, blending artists from Noel Coward and Fats Waller to Madonna and Lily Allen.
Ms. Bergl starred as Beth Young on ABC's "Desperate Housewives," and currently plays Tammi Bryant on TNT's "Southland," in addition to guest stars on "Royal Pains" and "Hawaii 5-0" this season. She most recently appeared on the New York stage in Nora Ephron's "Love, Loss and What I Wore," and in Second Stage’s “Becky Shaw," and has starred in several Broadway productions.
"Emily Bergl Live at the Algonquin: Kidding on the Square" is available on Amazon and iTunes December 5th.
