The full cast has been announced for Spare Rib, a reproductive rights celebration on June 16 at the Society for Ethical Culture. Hosted by feminist icon Gloria Steinem, and featuring a reading from Winter Miller's play Spare Rib, this evening will honor the work of Dr. Willie Parker, abortion provider to underserved communities in the American South.
Samantha Bee ("Full Frontal with Samantha Bee", "The Daily Show") will provide opening remarks. The reading cast includes Elizabeth Marvel (Other Desert Cities, "House of Cards"), Marin Ireland (Ironbound, "Masters of Sex"), Mamie Gummer ("The Good Wife"), Mozhan Marnò ("The Blacklist"), Deirdre O'Connell (The Way West), Kate Rigg (The Jammer), and Vella Lovell ("Crazy Ex-Girlfriend"). Adrienne Campbell-Holt (Cal in Camo, Dry Land) will direct. The evening will also feature a special performance by the Grammy-winning cabaret star Lady Rizo.
Funds raised will support besieged abortion clinics in Mississippi and Alabama as well as Access Reproductive Care-Southeast, which helps Southerners access safe, affordable, and compassionate reproductive health care.
Complimentary tickets are available to people who have worked or volunteered at an abortion clinic, and to anyone who has had an abortion.
Spare Rib will take place at 8 PM in the Concert Hall at the Society for Ethical Culture at 2 West 64th St. in Manhattan.
General admission tickets begin at $25 and VIP tickets, including a 7 PM pre-show meet-and-greet, begin at $100 at is.gd/spareribtix.
This event is co-sponsored by the Society for Ethical Culture with support from New Georges.
