EXORCIST: TURN OFF THE HELL Plays Comedy Spot in the Ballston Mall

Hope Operas, DC's own "cliffhangers for charity" theater program will return to the Comedy Spot at the Ballston Mall 4238 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, for the 2011 season at 8:00 PM on Monday, September 12 and will run through October 10, 2011. Each Monday night for five weeks, one 15-minute act, or "episode," from each production will be performed. At the end of the evening, audience members vote for their favorite episode and the charity associated with the respective serial goes home with the bulk of the evening's ticket sales. The remaining proceeds are distributed among the other charities according to popularity. Tickets ($12 per show or all five shows for $50) are cash only and available for purchase at the Comedy Spot box office starting at 7:00 PM the night of each Hope Operas performance.

Created by in 2009 as a friendly competition among DC-area playwrights to benefit local charities while premiering original, serialized works, Hope Operas continues to build a loyal following and raise increasing amounts of money for local charities each year. The 2010 season brought in close to $3,000 in benefits for the charities featured. In 2009, Hope Operas raised $2,300 for local charities.

Join Landless for Exorcist: Turn Off the Hell (supporting Americans United for Separation of Church and State) as part of the third annual Hope Operas. Exorcist: Turn Off the Hell is written by Andrew Lloyd Baughman and directed by Melissa Baughman. The musical chronicles the mysterious and horrific events surrounding the making of the most expensive and ill-advised Broadway musical of all time.
