EDINBURGH FESTIVAL 2009: Graceless
Through striking movement, witty vignettes and haunting monologues that sweep from quiet fury to ludicrous joy, Petticoats Rip investigate the roles women squeeze into, the hoops they jump through and the cost of tottering in impossible heels.
In Graceless, five women humorously and intelligently question contemporary femininity, from motherhood to masturbation; they ask what makes "feminism" a dirty word for a young woman today?
The show, playing at the Assembly Hall Baillie Room, is directed by the company and Jamie Wood, director of 2008 Fringe First winner Paperweight.
With a joyous honesty in storytelling, Petticoats Rip entertain, provoke and inspire, bringing life and passion to the most ordinary moments, illuminating everyday thoughts and dilemmas with new eyes and a fresh perspective.
Petticoats Rip is a new theatre company made up of five women from around the UK. Their work aims to challenge and explore life's complexities whilst remaining active and responsive to social change, they strive to stretch themselves and their audiences. Graceless is their debut performance at the Edinburgh Fringe.
