EDINBURGH 2011: BWW Reviews: EXCESS BAGGAGE, theSpaces @ Surgeons Hall, August 18, 2011.

Excess Baggage is a comedy about a newlywed couple, set in an airport.

The groom, Jack, is minding a bag left by a stranger as he said he'd only be a few minutes. The bride, Kristy, was looking at duty free to take back for the girls. 

That is the main plot summary. Doesn't sound like much, does it?

Excess Baggage is funny and not very far fetched. I'm sure many people would have said "Sure!" if asked "Can you look after my bag for a minute? I'm just running to the loo." 

Jack and Kristy are about to board their flight to Las Vegas for their honeymoon but the story of how they met, their shotgun wedding, family feuds and the strange woman who sits next to them all make for some amusing viewing. 

Emma Grace Arends and Chris Crookall are good comedic actors with great timing and expressive faces. However, a lot of the comedy relies on the character of Kristy and her ditziness. 

As Chris said to the audience afterwards: "If you liked it, tell everyone. If you didn't…shhhhhh!"

As a reviewer I can't "shhhhh" but I did quite like this show, it was funny but not overly and the characters were quite endearing. However, it still has a little way to go before it can leave the airport and get to Vegas.
