"DOUBT, THE PULITZER PRIZE WINNING PLAY TO APPEAR AT THE WATERFRONT"

The Waterfront Playhouse presents "Doubt, A Parable" by John Patrick Shanley. "Doubt" is the most highly honored play in the last decade having been awarded the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play, as well as 24 major theater awards. "Entertainment Weekly" says "'Doubt' is a breathtaking work of immense proportion. Positively brilliant!"

"Doubt" is directed by Danny Weathers, Artistic Director for the Waterfront.  The production opens January 28 and runs to February 14 at 8 pm. An opening night gala party is hosted by Nikki McCausland and Bill Bradford.

Set in the Bronx in 1964, a rigid nun suspects a charismatic parish priest of improprieties with one of the male students. With absolute certainty, she investigates to find the truth, enlisting the help of a subordinate nun and the child's mother. Is the priest guilty or innocent? "Doubt" asks the audience to decide - when doubt ends, the conversation begins. "Provocative. A gripping story of suspicion," according to "Variety."

Mr. Weathers has assembled a first-rate cast: Joy Hawkins, the Artistic Director of The Red Barn Theatre, is an Equity actress, who has numerous directing and acting credits in Key West and regionally, as well as film and television credits.  David Black has appeared on all the stages of Key West in such productions as "Reefer Madness," "Urinetown" and "The Best Man." Elena Devers has performed at the Red Barn and the Waterfront and is the marketing director for the Studios of Key West. Lela Elam is a guest Equity actress from Miami, where she has been in numerous productions and received a Carbonell Award for "In The Continuum."

The film of "Doubt," starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, is scheduled to appear at the Tropic Cinema in the coming weeks. Ms. Streep won the SAG award for Best Actress for her performance in "Doubt." In a unique collaboration, the Waterfront Playhouse and the Tropic Cinema have teamed up to promote both the stage and the film version of this piece. Both organizations believe this gives the Keys Community a unique perspective on how a stage production translates into a film version.

Call 305-294-5015 for tickets, or purchase them online at www.waterfrontplayhouse.org. "Doubt" also features their 'Friday Night Date' special (two tickets for $50.) Also, every Wednesday and Friday performance will feature a post-performance discussion with the cast, director and audience.
