'Don Juan' at SFSU, Adapted & Directed by Mark Jackson, March 6-16

By:

San Francisco State University Theatre Arts presents Don Juan as its main stage production, adapted and directed by Mark Jackson.

Noted Bay Area director and SF State alum Mark Jackson — named 2007 Best Theatrical Auteur by SF Weekly — brings Don Juan to the stage in what he describes as "a psychopathic, cruel, yet very funny production."

"This world premiere adaptation of the unscrupulous, libertine and ruthless seducer draws on both the Moliére and Pushkin renditions of the legend. The result is a perspective of Don Juan fitted to today's society, where seduction and hypocrisy collaborate to get under our skins, sell us their ideologies and take from us what they like. Using a 'traveling troupe' approach, performers will play multiple roles, switch costumes on stage, and manipulate their own lights, sets and props," describe press notes.

Guest artist Jake Rodriguez — winner of the 2003 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award in sound design — serves as both performer and sound designer.

Performances are Friday March 7 at 8PM (Opening benefit, $20 general/$17 students and seniors); Saturday March 8 at 8PM; Thursday March 13 at 8PM, Friday March 14 at 8PM and Saturday March 15 at 8PM; Sunday March 9 & 16 at 2PM
