Disney's Next Stage Musical THE JUNGLE BOOK to Premiere in Chicago; Mary Zimmerman to Direct
Zimmerman will use songs and music from the 1967 Disney animated movie. Some of the film's most popular songs include "The Bare Necessities", "I Wan'na to Be Like You", "Trust In Me" and more.
“We entrust this beloved title to Mary Zimmerman, a great American theater artist, and Goodman Theatre, one of the country’s cultural treasures, knowing that it’s found the best possible home,” said Thomas Schumacher, Producer and President of Disney Theatrical Productions. “We cannot wait to see what The Jungle Book becomes in their extraordinary hands.”
Zimmerman has directed several theatrical adaptations of literary works, including Metamorphoses - for which she won the Best Direction Tony Award in 2002, Journey to the West, The Odyssey, Silk, The Arabian Nights, and The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci. She has recieved more than twenty Joseph Jefferson Awards.
The rest of the Goodman Theatre's 2012-13 subscription programme was also announced today, including MEET VERA STARK, A CHRISTMAS CAROL and THE HAPPIEST SONG PLAYS LAST.
