Discovery Times Square to Premiere BODY WORLDS: PULSE This Spring

Discovery Times Square today announces the opening of Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: PULSEopening this Spring. Dr. Gunther von Hagens is the pioneering anatomist and inventor of Plastination, which halts decomposition of the body and makes possible unprecedented ways of studying the human form. This newest of the renowned BODY WORLDS exhibitions that have presented the human body in this groundbreaking way to more than 36 million people around the world brings together anatomy and the latest findings in health and wellness in a visually compelling and highly entertaining and informative exhibition.

BODY WORLDS: PULSE, a world debut, was developed exclusively for New York City, where it is receiving its premiere engagement at Discovery Times Square. The Spring 2013 opening will mark the first time that one of the trailblazing BODY WORLDS exhibitions will be in New York City.

James Sanna, President of Discovery Times Square, says, "Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: PULSE is the definitive work of its kind. It is a transformative experience that illuminates The Miracles of the human body that we take for granted every day. This exhibition literally confronts us with how the body absorbs and reacts to the dizzying range of stimuli humans are exposed to in the 21 st century. We are thrilled to host this exciting exhibit and finally bring BODY WORLDS to New York City for the first time."

"BODY WORLDS: PULSE shows the form and function of the human body, its vulnerability and potential, and the challenges it faces navigating the 21 st century," said Dr. Angelina Whalley, Director of the Institute for Plastination and conceptual planner of the exhibition.

BODY WORLDS: PULSE brings to life findings from scientific studies that chronicle the effects of fast paced 21 st century living on the body and mind and critical connections between the two. Beyond the obvious questions of nutrition and exercise, BODY WORLDS: PULSE explores issues of the pace of one's life, natural tempo and optimal rhythms for healthy living.

The specimens presented in Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS exhibitions stem from the Institute for Plastination's body donation program. To date there are more than 13,000 registered body donors to the Institute, more than 1,000 of them Americans. All of the specimens have been preserved through Plastination, a process that replaces the natural fluids in the body with reactive plastics that are initially pliable, and then harden after infusion. By hardening the plastic in the specimens, they may be permanently preserved in life-like poses, which illustrate how our bodies internally respond to everyday movements.

Discovery Times Square (DTS) is New York City's first large-scale exhibition center presenting visitors with limited-run, educational and immersive exhibit experiences while exploring the world's defining cultures, art, history and events. More than a museum, DTS has featured exhibitions of unparalleled breadth, including Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, Leonardo Da Vinci's Workshop, King Tut, Pompeii The Exhibit, Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition and most recently Terracotta Warriors: Defenders of China's First Emperor. DTS is located at 226 West 44th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenues).
