Director Mark Finley to Talk STREET THEATER on WBAI Radio's OutFM Tonight

Director Mark Finley talks about STREET THEATER tonight, June 18th, 7-8 PM, WBAI Radio, 99.5 FM. Tune in for WBAI Radio's OutFM at 7 PM for two exclusive interviews with the directors of two powerful documentary films that are screening in theaters in New York City this week.
Joining co-anchors Trish Spoto and Marle Becker IN-STUDIO will
be Malika Zouhali-Worrall the director of the critically-acclaimed
film CALL ME KUCHU, now playing at Quad Cinema. The film, which is getting Oscar buzz and is a New York Times Critics' Pick and Salon.com's Pick of the Week, tells the story of David Kato the first openly gay man in Uganda as he struggles against laws that would criminalize homosexuality. Later in the hour, an exclusive interview with filmmaker Yoruba Richen, the director of THE NEW BLACK, the thought-provoking and timely film about the battle over marriage equality within the African American community. Her film has its New York premiere at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival this week. With the Supreme Court poised to rule on two gay marriage cases, we'll discuss the state of the fight for marriage equality. And we'll hear what brought this black Lesbian filmmaker to develop this film and how she hopes it will have an impact across the nation.
And joining the two talented filmmakers will be Mark Finley, Artistic Director of TOSOS, who will talk about their special Gay Pride, one-night only, presentation of STREET THEATER, Doric Wilson's legendary,
award-winning satire about Stonewall, which is on the official roster of Pride Events at the Center.

About Doric Wilson: A participant in the Stonewall Uprising, Doric Wilson wrote Street Theater not so much as a history of the event but as a record of the people he knew and the incidents he was involved in on Christopher Street in the months, days and hours leading up to the night gays fought back. The play focuses on a panorama of drags, dykes, leathermen, flower children, vice cops and cruisers- the innocent and not-so-innocent bystanders who would turn June 28, 1969 into Stonewall-the D-day of gay history.
Frequently called the "father of modern queer theatre," Doric Wilson's 50 year dedication to queer culture was recognized with the first Robert Chesley Award for Lifetime Achievement in Gay Theatre; the 2007 IT Award for Artistic Achievement; in 2009, the ATHE (Association for Theatre in Higher Education) Career Achievement Award for Professional Theatre; and last year the Fresh Fruit Festival presented playwright Doric Wilson with the 2010 PassionFruit Award for Enduring and Continuing Pioneer Work in LGBT Theater.
