Alliance Brings Perversity to Miami With
David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago
The
ALLIANCE THEATRE Lab is proud to announce its latest production, the
David Mamet contemporary classic Sexual Perversity in Chicago, opening November 5, 2009, and running through November 22, 2009.
One of Mamet's early works, Sexual Perversity in Chicago revolves around Danny and Deb, two twenty-somethings who begin a tentative fumbling towards love amongst the sexual excesses of the 1970s. But this awkward beginning of romance is given a harsh introduction to the reality of interpersonal drama by Bernie, Danny's brash and cynical best friend, and Joan, Deb's fierce and cold roommate. Mamet's play examines the workings of love and romance in a society where monogamy and commitment have become the perversity.
The production is directed by Artistic Director Adalberto Acevedo, and stars local talent Bertha Leal, Travis Reiff, Jehane Serralles, and David Sirois. The play, whose "machine gun" dialogue launched
David Mamet from regional to national recognition, is "infamously profane" but "with surprising lofts of a philosophical and wistful bent" (Variety). The Boston Theatre Review speaks of the play's "unfortunate reality," that the relationship is damaged not only by "lack of communication but also partially from the influence of society."
Performances will be held Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 7 pm, at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street, in Miami Lakes. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $15 for students and seniors, and $12 for prepaid groups of more than ten people. Parking at the Main Street Playhouse is free.
