Playwright, performer and director David Drake will take on "Aliens, Rock 'n' Roll, God, Gays and Guts" directing Homo The Musical!.

Homo The Musical! is an official selection of the 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Drake joins librettist Lola Rock 'N' Rolla (writer/director of B-movies Dragzilla, Night of the Living Gay, I Was a Tranny Werewolf, and Nefertitty) and songwriter Gina Volpe (guitarist of the seminal NYC punk band The Lunachicks) to mount the new musical. Homo The Musical! opens at the PTC Performance Space (555 West 42nd Street) on July 23, 2013.

Posing as a suburban housewife, an alien from Planet Homo has infiltrated a religious middle-American town. Will the good people of Pleasant Valley Pines notice before their whole community erupts in chaos and depravity? Chock full of ear-splitting rock-and-roll and kick-ass dancing, Homo the Musical! is an offbeat and otherworldly probing of pure camp, cult and pop.

The cast features Meg Baessler; J. Alexander Coe (Company member of Actors Theatre of Louisville, Sense and Sensibility); Sam Given (Rent, directed by Neil Patrick Harris); Blair Goldberg (Annie Get Your Gun with Bernadette Peters and Carrie the Musical); Eric Gunhus (Broadway's The Producers and Billy Elliot);Thomas Poarch ("Gossip Girl," "Blue Bloods," Awesome 80s Prom); Danielle Erin Rhodes (Cameron Macintosh 1st National Tour of Oliver); and Christopher Trepinski (Naked Boys Singing).

Homo The Musical! features choreography by Aliane Baquerot, associate direction by Adam Jackman, set design by Jason Courson, and video/projection design by Lola Rock 'N' Rolla. The show is presented by The New York Musical Theatre Festival, The Playthings Theatre, Mark Hartman, and Noah Lemaich.

Drake is most widely known for his Obie Award-winning performance in his self-penned one-man show The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me. One of the longest-running solo shows in New York theater history, the show had a year-long run at the Perry Street Theater in 1992. Other off-Broadway performance credits include Pageant,Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, Son of Drakula, and End of the World Party. As a director, Drake guided a cast of 40 performers in the final act of Taylor Mac's five-act music-theater extravaganza The Lily's Revenge at the HERE Arts Center in New York, which won a 2010 Obie Award, and landed on the 10-best lists of The NY Post, Paper Magazine, and The New Yorker. Other NY directing credits include Starstruck,That Woman: Rebecca West Remembers, and The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, which won a Herald Angel Award and an Argus Angel Award upon its debut in Edinburgh. A benefit concert performance of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, on May 20, 2013, featuring Drake and an all-star ensemble cast raised over $66,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Homo The Musical! runs Tuesday, July 23 at 8:00 pm; Thursday, July 25 at 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm; Friday, July 26 at 5:00 pm; and Saturday, July 27 at 9:00 pm.
