Damn Yankees visits Once on This Island

By:

Four actors who perform in Washington's Arena Stage in their wonderful production of "Damn Yankees", shlepped up I-95 to attend a 10:30 a.m. student matinee at Baltimore's Center Stage to see some of their friends perform in the musical "Once On This Island". And this was after their own 8 p.m. show the night before!

Drew DiStefano (Del and Ensemble) led the cheering and holloring during the performance. Also attending Center Stage for the first time were Christina Lynn Phillips (Gracie, Ensemble), Ellen Marsh (Gracie, ensemble), and Philip Michael Baskerville (Mark, Ensemble). All four were impressed with the production and the theater. They didn't get a chance to talk to their friends after the show since they had to hurry back to DC for their own performance...but they all agreed that the loss of sleep and the one hour journey were well worth it.

"Damn Yankees" stars Brad Oscar as Mr. Applegate who was an original cast of "The Producers" where he played Max Bialistock for two years and created the role of deranged Nazi playwright Franz Liebkind.

It also stars Meg Gillentine as the stunning Lola. Baltimore audiences may remember her incredible performance as Gladys in Center Stage's "Pajama Game".

The choreographer, Baayork Lee created the role of Connie in "A Chorus Line".

The show is directed by the Arena's Artistic Director, Molly Smith.

The musical continues at the Arena Stage Kreeger Theater, 1101 Sixth Street, SW, Washington, DC. through Feb. 5. Call 202-488-3300 for tickets.

Families can utilize the Target Family Fun Pack which includes four box seats, four non-alcoholic drinks and four snacks for $100.
