Daly, Bobbie & Green Among Talent Set for NYFOS Gala 4/14

New York Festival of Song (NYFOS), called by The New York Times "A national treasure when it comes to the art of song," will present musical stars Tyne Daly, Amanda Green, Walter Bobbie, Darius de Haas, Jason Danieley and surprise guests in its 21st-Season Gala, titled CARRIED AWAY (with the Lyrics of Comden & Green), a celebration of legendary musical comedy writers Betty Comden and Adolph Green, on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 PM at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.

The performance will be followed by a seated dinner at 9 PM in the Rainbow Room's Pegasus Suite.

NYFOS Directors Steven Blier and Michael Barrett will be pianists/hosts. The evening will also include soprano Meredith Lustig, featured in NYFOS's Latin Lovers in January, tenor Alex Mansoori, last heard in NYFOS's A Bernstein/Bolcom Celebration, and baritone David Krohn, as special guests.

Gala tickets, including performance and the dinner, are $750 - $1,000. Information on purchasing single tickets and tables can be obtained online at www.nyfos.org or by contacting New York Festival of Song, 307 Seventh Avenue, Suite 1601, New York, NY 10001, (646) 230-8380. Weill Recital Hall is at 154 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019 and the Rainbow Room is at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10020.

Tyne Daly, a Tony Award-winner for her "Mama Rose" in Gypsy, as well as six-time Emmy Award-winner, was most recently featured on the New York stage in Edward Albee's Me, Myself and I; Singer/songwriter Amanda Green, daughter of Phyllis Newman and Adolph Green, wrote the musical revue Put A Little Love In Your Mouth!, which had a sold-out run at Second Stage; Walter Bobbie, director of Broadway's Chicago (for which he won a Tony), Footloose, On the Twentieth Century and Sweet Charity with Christina Applegate, co-starred as "Nicely Nicely Johnson" in the 1992 Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls; Darius de Haas was featured in Broadway's Rent and Kiss of the Spider Woman, and is now a prominent cabaret performer, specializing in the music of Billy Strayhorn; Jason Danieley was featured in Broadway's Curtains and played the title role in the last Broadway revival of Candide.

Betty Comden and Adolph Green provided lyrics, librettos, and screenplays for some of the most beloved and successful Hollywood musicals and Broadway shows of the 20th century. Their Broadway credits include On the Town, Bells Are Ringing, Wonderful Town and Applause, and onscreen, such classic musicals as Singin' In the Rain and The Band Wagon.

This season, New York Festival of Song (NYFOS) has earned such raves as "Profoundly moving" (The New York Times) and "Extraordinary - what we all want concerts to be" (New York Daily News). The company is dedicated to creating intimate song concerts of great beauty and originality, weaving music, poetry, history and humor into unforgettable evenings of compelling theater. An evening with NYFOS entertains, educates and creates community among performers and audiences in a spirit of shared adventure. Since its founding in 1988 by Steven Blier and Michael Barrett, NYFOS has celebrated American song, featuring premieres and commissions of new American works, and has produced five recordings on the Koch label, including a Grammy Award-winning disc of Leonard Bernstein's Arias and Barcarolles, as well as the Grammy-nominated recording of Ned Rorem's Evidence of Things Not Seen on New World Records. Bridge Records's release of NYFOS's Spanish Love Songs, featuring the late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, was just named "One of the Best of the Year" by Opera News. The forthcoming recording of Bastianello/Lucrezia, operas by John Musto and WIlliam Bolcom commissioned by NYFOS, premiered to rave reviews last season. NYFOS's concert series, touring programs, radio broadcasts, recordings, and educational activities have inspired a new interest in the creative possibilities of the song program, and have inspired the creation of thematic vocal series around the world
