DM Playhouse Presents The Wedding Singer

The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents the Tony Award and Drama Desk nominated musical, "The Wedding Singer," June 3-26, 2011. Tickets may be purchased online, by phone at 515-277-6261 and at The Playhouse ticket office, 831 42nd St. "The Wedding Singer" is sponsored by Prairie Meadows and Stacey's Prom, Bridal & Lingerie.

"The Wedding Singer" is set in 1985. Rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart (Craig Petersen) lives in his grandmother's basement in New Jersey and sings in a wedding band. His dreams of being a singer/songwriter are long gone, replaced now by a burning desire to find the right girl and settle down. When his fiancee leaves him standing at the altar, he becomes a wedding planner's worst nightmare, taking out his bitterness on stage until his eye and heart turn to a new friend, Julia (Bridget Roepke). But she's engaged to a wealthy Wall Street broker.

"The Wedding Singer" is based on the 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.The Playhouse cast is directed by Karla Kash, with musical direction by Ben Hagen and choreography by Kash.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
