DIRTY GREAT LOVE STORY to Make US Debut at 59E59 Theaters, 6/11-30
59E59 Theaters will present the US premiere of DIRTY GREAT LOVE STORY, written and rhymed by Richard Marsh and Katie Bonna, and directed by Pia Furtado. Produced by Polly Ingham Productions and TIM JOhanson Productions in association with Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, DIRTY GREAT LOVE STORY begins performances on Tuesday, June 11 for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 30. This "addictively loveable" (Time Out London) poetry-play charmed audiences at the Pleasance Dome at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe with its hilarious mash-up of theater and spoken word. Called "bliss" by The Independent, DIRTY GREAT LOVE STORY arrives at 59E59 Theaters after sold-out runs at the Bristol Old Vic, Soho Theatre and Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds.Katie Bonna (playwright/performer) is a playwright, performance poet and actress, nominated for Best Actress by The Stage in Edinburgh 2012. Other writing includes rapid response piece Underlay (Nabokov at Soho Theatre); the one-woman show The Celebrated Mrs Inchbald (Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and the U.S.); The Glass Tower (Red Handed Theatre Company); and Liquorice & Smoke-Rings (PULSE Festival). She has created a number of word installations for the Antic Group, in their venues across London, as well as running a number of interactive community-based events with her poetry collective, Dirty Hands, in pop-up and public spaces in her local borough of Wandsworth. She has performed poetry at Latitude, Larmer Tree and Meadowlands festivals, appeared on Channel 4 as part of the Random Acts series, and the live poetry nights Hammer & Tongue and Apples & Snakes. Richard Marsh's (playwright/performer) plays include: Skittles (BAC, Nursery Theatre, and Radio 4, also performed); Nicked (book & lyrics, HighTide & Criterion); Westminster Side Story (book & lyrics, Coalition at Theatre503); Khaliq's Story / 2007 (Decade at Theatre503); Fairytale of New Cross (Theatre503); Dad's Money (Edinburgh and London, also directed). Richard was one of the inaugural 503/5 writers-in-residence at Theatre503. As a poet, he's performed all over London, at various festivals and internationally as far away as Scotland.Pia Furtado (director) directs theatre, opera and multi-disciplinary work. She is the artistic director of The Theory of Everything, which is currently developing two new works: The Phillippa Project (a collaboration with the late Abram Wilson) and WT:P. She was a JUMP mentor for the Australian Arts Council in 2012 and trained intensively in Suzuki/Viewpoints with the Siti Company in 2009. Pia has also held residencies and staff directed at The Royal Court, The Young Vic, English National Opera, The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal Opera House, ENO, and Opera North.
