Two-time Tony nominee Gavin Creel made a surprise appearance at the Sirius XM Live on Broadway radio show on Wednesday and had some exciting news to share about a brand new upcoming CD. "I just got off the plane from London and we finished recording." Creel revealed. "I got out of the mastering session two days ago so I have a new album coming out, probably early 2012."

Host Seth Rudetsky asked Creel about his participation as the lead in a recent workshop for the 1970's musical, PIPPIN. "I don't really know," he answered. "They're talking about possibly bringing it to Broadway." The reading, which was presented by producers Barry and Fran Weissler, also featured Katie Finneran, Michael Cumsty and Tracie Thoms as the Leading Player, a role traditionally played by a man. Diane Paulus, who worked with Creel in the recent revival of HAIR, directed the project.

Asked by Rudetsky if this newest incarnation of PIPPIN would have a new spin on it, such as nudity, Creel laughed and replied, "Yes, um, I don't think I can talk about it," Sensing his discomfort, Rudetsky comically interjected, "ok get back to me off-mike and then I'll share it with the whole national audience."

As a tip of the hat to PIPPIN, Creel treated Live's audience to a rousing rendition of "Corner of the Sky". "This song is one of those songs that when you go to school for musical theater, you study and they're like 'this is a little overdone - don't sing this song,'" Creel said in introducing the number. "So we're gonna sing it anyway!" Hopefully he'll be back on Broadway singing it soon!
