'Copenhagen' Comes to Academy Theatre, Opening 4/27

By:

Copenhagen, Michael Frayn's Tony award winning masterwork about the final conversation between Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg comes to Academy Theatre from April 27th until May 20th. Show times are 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 pm on Sundays.

In 1941, Heisenberg made the dangerous trip to Copenhagen to meet with his mentor.  The details of their meeting have never been revealed, but two never spoke again. In the style of 'Rashomon', Michael Frayn presents his own ideas of the event in the Tony Award winning play.   At its heart, this play questions who gets to decide who gets nuclear weapons and what responsibility scientists have to a human race which may not have the best interests for their discoveries at heart?

The show, directed by Maggie McEnerny and stage managed by Jim Walsh, re-unites the team which created the critical favorite 'Oleana' and will create the same pitched arguments in audience members as they leave the theater.  This show mixes history, physics, and astonishing language to create an experience the public won't soon forget!

"Producing Copenhagen has been a goal of Academy Theatre for years!  Questions of who gets the bomb and who gets to decide are especially important during this election year." states Academy Artistic Director Robert Drake. This play raises a lot of questions: "What could drive close friends to never speak again? Was Heisenberg really trying to help Germany develop the bomb or was he desperately trying to stop a mad man from unlimited power?"
