Conservatory Dance Company Announces 2011-2012 Season

Point Park University's Conservatory Dance Company is presenting six shows this season, which opens Sept. 30, 2011 and runs through April 29, 2012.

The Conservatory Dance Company's upcoming season includes:

v Student Choreography Project
Sept. 30 - Oct. 2
Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
George Rowland White Performance Studio, Point Park University campus

The Conservatory Dance Company opens the season with Student Choreography Project, a showcase of original choreography from its top students. Regularly recognized for national festivals and awards, this edgy and inspired concert features selections from a variety of dance genres by some of today's most promising young artists.

Nov. 11 - 13 and 18 - 20
Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Luminaries of the dance world collaborate with Point Park University students in a performance like you've never seen before. Today's most sought-after choreographers bring their unique perspectives to an evening that will leave you in awe. This is an exciting, innovative fusion of styles you can't find anywhere else.

Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Rockwell Theatre, Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse

This is not your father's Nutcracker. Sexier and jazzier than any version you've seen before, Doug Bentz's fresh twist and choreography bring to life a whole sultry slew of characters, including the Sugar Rum Cherry. With a musical arrangement based on Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, this unrivalled dance masterpiece features live music by the Benny Benack Band.

Featuring the works of accomplished dance faculty including Kiesha Lalama, Garfield Lemonius, Peter LeBreton Merz, Nicolas Petrov and Ron Tassone, our students shine on the stage at Point Park University.

April 19 - 21
Thursday at 8 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Byham Theater, Cultural District

Showcasing the diverse and impressive talents of the Conservatory dance students, this performance features an exciting array of dance legends and styles. Each has influenced the dance world's past and tonight, inspires its future.

Remarkable works featuring: Martha Graham, Ohad Naharin, Ann Reinking, and Val Caniparoli

April 27 - 29
Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

In Point Park University's adjunct dance faculty, our dance students have access to a wide range of styles and experience. With artful choreography, this performance features very special works created for this season's culminating performance.

Season subscriptions are currently on sale; a full season can be purchased for only $72 (a savings of up to 35% over single ticket prices).
