La MaMa Puppet Series Is Set - 11/29/2009
La MaMa will present a trio of adult puppet theater productions that are brimming with international art forms in "La MaMa Puppet Series 3" from October 8 to October 25, 2009. The series will open with the newest work by Theodora Skipitares, "The Traveling Players present The Women Of Troy," from October 8 to 25. The piece is based on the text of Euripides and the words of incarcerated women on New York's Riker's Island. From October 29 to November 8, Aphids Puppet Theatre of Australia will perform "A Quarreling Pair," three miniature puppet plays inspired by the work of the same name by American avant garde writer Jane Bowles. From November 12 to 29, Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre will perform Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" on three trays with three puppeteers and 22 eight-inch actors. The Series is curated by Denise Greber.

Newcomer Marisa Wegrzyn Wins 2009 Wasserstein Prize - 12/1/2009
Emerging playwright Marisa Wegrzyn is the recipient of the 2009 Wasserstein Prize for her play Hickorydickory. The Wasserstein Prize was established in memory of the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein, who died in 2006. The $25,000 prize is awarded for an outstanding script by a young woman who has not yet received national attention. The Wasserstein Prize is funded by the Educational Foundation of America (EFA) and administered by Theatre Development Fund. It will be presented by Wendy's life-long friend and EFA Board member Heidi Ettinger and TDF's Executive Director Victoria Bailey at a reception at The Players at 16 Gramercy Park South in New York City on Tuesday, December 1. In addition to the $25,000 prize, Ms. Wegrzyn's play, Hickorydickory, will receive a reading at Second Stage Theatre in New York City.

This December, Lincoln Center's Great Performers series will present Tony Award-winning actor Stephen Dillane in two unique performances directed by Katie Mitchell that are based on the relationship between music and literature. Just added to the series, Mr. Dillane performs T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets, followed by the Miró Quartet's interpretation of Beethoven's late String Quartet in A minor, Op.132, which originally inspired the poet's timeless texts. Four Quartets, which originated at the Donmar Warehouse in London in January 2009, will be performed December 2 and 3 only at Baryshnikov Arts Center.

This December, Lincoln Center's Great Performers series will present Tony Award-winning actor Stephen Dillane in two unique performances directed by Katie Mitchell that are based on the relationship between music and literature. Just added to the series, Mr. Dillane performs T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets, followed by the Miró Quartet's interpretation of Beethoven's late String Quartet in A minor, Op.132, which originally inspired the poet's timeless texts. Four Quartets, which originated at the Donmar Warehouse in London in January 2009, will be performed December 2 and 3 only at Baryshnikov Arts Center.

Diversionary Theatre will produce the West Coast premiere of Paul Rudnick's big gay comedy, The New Century, as the third show of their 2009-2010 season. The New Century features the outrageous and poignant stories of a Jewish matron, a flamboyant aging homosexual and a Midwestern craftswoman, and is filled with snappy one-liners and a moment of gratuitous nudity. Diversionary's production will be directed by Igor Goldin, and feature Phil Johnson, Dana Hooley, Jacque Wilke, Noah Longton and Stacey Hardke. Goldin directed last summer's smash hit Yank! The show will run December 3-January 2, including performances over both the Christmas and New Year weekends.
