Coming Up This Week in Theatre - 8/4/2012

As part of a new initiative supporting promising young artists Off-Broadway, The York Theatre Company, in association with Patricia Hoag Simon, presents a new lab production of Songs for a New World with music and lyrics byJason Robert Brown. Songs for a New World will play 6 performances, August 4 - 12, 2012 at The York Theatre at Saint Peter's including special late-night performances on Fridays for "the show after the show."(Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

TRIASSIC PARQ The Musical Closes Off-Broadway Tonight - 8/5/2012

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, today announced the Festival's line-up, which runs from July 5 through August 5, 2012. Single tickets go on sale on April 2. Theater offerings include Mikhail Baryshnikov in Dmitry Krymov's staging of a new play, In Paris, as well as Sydney Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya directed by Tamas Ascher and adapted by Andrew Upton. The stellar cast includes John Bell, Cate Blanchett, Hayley McElhinney, Richard Roxburgh, and Hugo Weaving.

The multi-faceted Mikhail Baryshnikov, who famously left the Soviet Union in 1974, returns to the theater to perform for the first time in his mother tongue in the Dmitry Krymov Laboratory's production of a haunting new play, In Paris, as part of the Lincoln Centre Festival this Summer.

Tony-Winning MEMPHIS Closes on Broadway - 8/5/2012

The producers of the 2010 Tony Award-winning Best Musical MEMPHIS announced tonight that the production will play its final performance on Broadway on Sunday, August 5, 2012 after 30 previews and 1,166 regular performances. MEMPHIS opened on October 19, 2009 at Broadway's Shubert Theatre (225 W. 44th Street), having begun previews on September 23rd.
