Marvell Rep Opens NIGHT GAMES - 2/23/2013

NIGHT GAMES by Lenny Leibowitz, was originally scheduled to open at Marvell Rep on Thursday, February 14 at 8 PM. It will now be opening Saturday, February 23 at 8 p.m. in its world premiere, adapted from the novella Spiel im Morgengrauen by Arthur Schnitzler.


Tenor Heath Huberg Opens the Baltimore Orioles' 2013 Spring Training Season - 2/23/2013

A great Sarasota baseball tradition continues as Sarasota Opera will help open the 2013 Baltimore Oriole's Spring Training Season with the singing of the National Anthem on Saturday, February 23rd, at the opening game against the Minnesota Twins. Tenor Heath Huberg, who is currently singing the role of Nadir in Sarasota Opera's 2013 production of The Pearl Fishers, has been selected to sing.


HARDBODY Begins Previews on Broadway - 2/23/2013

The new American musical Hands on a Hardbody will begin preview performances this Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 8pm at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street), with an official opening night of Thursday, March 21, 2013.


VIRGINIA WOOLF Extends Through February 24 - 2/24/2013

Producers of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? have announced that the 50th anniversary Broadway revival has been extended, and is now on sale through February 24, 2013. The production, which was originally on sale through January 27, 2013, officially opened on October 13, 2012, at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street), exactly 50 years to the day of the play's original Broadway opening on Saturday, October 13, 1962.


SCOOBY DOO LIVE! Leaves The Beacon Theatre - 2/24/2013

The much-loved Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Inc. Gang takes center stage in an all-new family musical, SCOOBY-DOO LIVE! MUSICAL MYSTERIES, presented by Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Life Like Touring. Featuring everyone's favorite characters from one of television's longest-running animated series, SCOOBY-DOO LIVE! MUSICAL MYSTERIES is set to thrill audiences at the Beacon Theatre from Friday, February 22 to Sunday, February 24, 2013. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, October 31 at 11AM.


Opera San Jose Closes Verdi's IL TROVATORE - 2/24/2013

Opera San Jose continues its 29th season with Giuseppe Verdi's powerful drama, Il trovatore. Eight performances are scheduled from February 9 through 24 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San Jose.


Barbra Streisand To Perform On The Oscars - 2/24/2013

Just announced! Two-time Academy Award winner Barbra Streisand, who has sung on the Oscars only once before, will perform on the upcoming Oscar telecast on February 24. Streisand last sang the love theme from 'A Star Is Born' on the March 28, 1977 show, winning the Best Original Song Oscar for 'Evergreen' that same night.


Kristin Chenoweth to Co-Host Oscars Pre-Show, 2/24 - 2/24/2013

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Broadway favorite Kristin Chenoweth with will co-host the 2013 Oscars pre-show along with Good Morning America's Lara Spencer and Entertainment Weekly's Jess Cagle. The show will be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who will also produce the actual Oscars telecast. Tune in at 4pm on ABC to watch Chenoweth in action!


Photo Flash: First Look at The Shelter's GHOST LIGHT - 2/24/2013

The Off-Broadway theatre company The Shelter - an ensemble of writers, directors, actors and designers developing original works for the stage - will present the world premiere of their newest work, GHOST LIGHT, a collection of six original short plays performed on a bare stage below a single light. Preview performances of GHOST LIGHT began February 21 prior to an official press opening of February 24 at the Gloria Maddox Theatre (151 West 26th Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001) in Manhattan. JACKIE Begins Previews at Women's Project Theater - 2/24/2013

Previews begin Sunday (February 24) for Tina Benko starring in Jackie, the North American premiere of the play by Nobel Prize winning Austrian Elfriede Jelinek, best known in the United States for her novel The Piano Teacher and the 2001 film based on it. Directed by Tea Alagic from the English translation by Gitta Honegger, Jackie opens Tuesday, March 5, at 7:30pm at Women's Project Theater's new home, New York City Center Stage II, 131 West 55th Street.


Tom Wopat Celebrates Release of I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER at 54 Below - 2/25/2013

2013 promises to be a banner year for Tom Wopat. From the Feb. 12 release of his eighth recording I've Got Your Number, to his role in Quentin Tarrantino's highly anticipated film Django Unchained, (released 2012 Christmas) and the release of the ABC -TV family musical movie Lovestruck, in which he stars with Jane Seymour. While one can't help recall his starring role in the '80's hit television series The Dukes of Hazzard, it is Tom Wopat, jazz vocalist and the Tony nominated star of Broadway that's been garnering high critical acclaim for the last two decades.

Hammond, Pendleton & More Reunite in Shakespeare Reading - 2/26/2013

Frog and Peach Theatre Company will present a star-studded reading of Shakespeare's 'Measure for Measure' on February 26 at The Player's Club, 16 Grammercy Park South, with a cast including Austin Pendleton as Angelo and Darrell Hammond as Pompey, together with Frog and Peach company members Ted Zurkowski as Lucio, Amy Frances Quint as Isabel, Eric Doss as Provost, Ryan Tramont as Escalus, Erick Gonzalez as Claudio and Jonathan Reed Wexler as Elbow. An original score by Ian McDonald (King Crimson, Foreigner) will be performed live by Mr. McDonald.


DETROIT '67 Begins Previews at The Public - 2/26/2013

The Public Theater will begin previews for the world premiere of DETROIT '67, a Public Lab production by Dominique Morisseau, on Tuesday, February 26. Directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, DETROIT '67 will run through Sunday, March 17 in The Public's Shiva Theater, with an official press opening on Tuesday, March 12.


SHINTOHO MIND WARP Film Series Features 8 Premieres at Japan Society - 2/27/2013

Born of the fires of dissidence, pioneering Japanese film studio Shintoho was founded in 1947 by employees of the Tokyo-based Toho Company during a strike (Shintoho literally means "New Toho"). The fledgling studio promptly established itself as one of the major film producers of the second golden age of Japanese cinema, specializing in low- to no-budget productions that have become absolute cult classics.


PA's Media Youth Film Initiative Offers Classes to Young Filmmakers - 2/27/2013

MyFi is a new partnership between the Media Arts Council and the Media Youth Center. where Center Director Brent Hill says, 'The hope is to harness some of the energy young people have for digital arts and the internet and help them channel it into meaningful film projects.' New classes start this spring in Media. Completed student MyFi films will be screened for the public as part of the 6th annual Media Film Festival in April 2013.

STOKER Director Park Chan-wook Appears at Retrospective Opening at Moving Image - 2/28/2013

Park Chan-wook, the South Korean director best known for his provocative and thrilling Vengeance Trilogy, will be the subject of a retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from February 28 through March 3, 2013. The series, which is presented in cooperation with The Korea Society, includes four feature films and three rarely screened short films. It opens with a personal appearance by the director at a preview screening of his latest film, Stoker-his first English language picture-which stars Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman, and is being released by Fox Searchlight Pictures in theaters nationwide on March 1.
