Beth Morrison Projects (BMP) and HERE announce programming for the inaugural PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now, running January 9–19, 2013, in New York City. This two-week festival, distilling the curatorial visions of artistic directors Kristin Marting (of HERE), Beth Morrison (of BMP), and Kim Whitener (of HERE), features visionary music-theatre and opera-theatre works by pioneering artists from NYC and around the world. PROTOTYPE is unique in providing a permanent theatrical home for the presentation of such quality productions, spotlighting the high-caliber creations of an exciting new generation of composers and collaborators, with a focus on chamber-sized works.
As part of the eighth edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 (PS122) and The Kitchen present the world premiere of Inflatable Frankenstein from Radiohole. One of New York's most tenacious and beloved ensembles explores the cultural legend of Frankenstein – everyone's metaphor for nearly everything. Source material includes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, James Whale's classic Frankenstein films, details from Mary Shelley's tragic life, the work of Antonin Artaud and parts of over 100 "Frankenstein" films. Inflatable Frankenstein is blood chilling and completely strange; filled with whimsical creature fantasy, technological absurdity, electric air and bodily fluids.
TADA! Youth Theater has announced a new production of Michael Slade and Joel Gelpe's The Little Moon Theater, based on the book by Irene Haas, with choreography by Joanna Greer, musical direction by Jim Colleran and direction by Janine Nina Trevens. The Little Moon Theater will play a limited engagement at at TADA! Theater (15 West 28th St. 3rd Fl. New York, NY 10001). Performances begin Saturday, January 19 and continue through Saturday, February 16.
Perfect Disgrace Theater presents the world-premiere of Brian Bauman's A CRUCIBLE – a new play influenced by the diaries of Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol, as well as the writings of Arthur Miller and John Huston's film "The Misfits" – directed by Kate Gagnon (TECHNODOULIA DOT COM) with previews beginning January 10 prior to an official press opening of January 13 at The Wild Project (195 East 3rd Street) in Manhattan.
