Columbus Commons Pavilion To Be Summer Home of Columbus Symphony
By: Gabrielle Sierra
The Columbus Symphony will present the Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops, the outdoor summer concert series, and Popcorn with the Pops, the Friday night summer series for children, at the Columbus Commons' Pavilion beginning in 2012. Spearheaded by the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation (CDDC), the permanent structure will back to the Ohio Theatre and be built and completed for the 2012 summer season. The downtown location will attract audiences from all over central Ohio, and with the Symphony as its anchor, create a new presence for live, symphonic music in downtown Columbus.
The 2011 seasons of both series will be presented at Chemical Abstracts."This is a huge and exciting undertaking for the Symphony," statEd Martin Inglis, CSO Board Chair. "The orchestra has been honored to present 28 summers of Picnic with the Pops at Chemical Abstracts Service. The support of their employees and volunteers have helped to establish Picnic with the Pops as an icon of summer in Columbus.""What would summer be without Picnic with the Pops?" staTed Mayor Michael B. Coleman, "We thank Chemical Abstracts for their 28 years of support and welcome the Symphony to Columbus' exciting new green space, the Columbus Commons."
