Columbus All-City Orchestra to Perform Free Concert, 5/22

Conducted by CSO Associate Conductor Peter Stafford Wilson, the Columbus All City Orchestra will present a free, public concert on Wednesday, May 22, at the Southern Theatre at 7:30pm. Now in its sixth year, the orchestra's 50 members are selected from musicians in grades 9-12 attending Columbus City Schools. The program is tuition free for students and is funded by The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, The Paul Duke Foundation, and The Morris and Emma Woodhull Fund of The Columbus Foundation.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Recognize the achievement of talented and dedicated young musicians in CCS high schools;
  • Give music students the opportunity to meet others with similar interests from other schools;
  • Provide a musically enriching experience by learning from professional conductors and musicians.
  • Motivate CCS students to pursue ongoing participation in their own school ensembles and the performing arts field
  • Increase responsibility and commitment by adhering to the rules of strict attendance and proper behavior at rehearsals and at the concert.
  • Encourage CCS students to audition for CSYO programs;
  • Give the students the experience of attending a professional orchestral concert by encouraging students to use their CSYO complimentary tickets to attend a Columbus Symphony concert.

The Columbus Symphony and CAPA present the Columbus All-City Orchestra at the Southern Theatre (21 E. Main St.) onWednesday, May 22, at 7:30pm. Admission is free.

Variations on a Shaker Melody - Copland

Violin Concerto - Bruch (Alexandria Hill, soloist, Columbus Alternative HS)

Elsa's Procession from Lohengrin - Wagner

March & Procession of Bacchus - Delibes

Overture to Rosamunde - Schubert

Centennial musicians include:

Skylar Brown, violin; Claire Curran, flute; Jesse Feltz, trumpet; Sarah Hendrix, flute; Lexie Herron, flute; Sarah Schaller, violin; Sarah Schoultz, flute, Robert Turner, clarinet, Sarah Wilkes, violin.

Columbus Alternative musicians include:

Logan Halterman, bass; Alexandria Hill, violin; Mounir Lynch, cello; Mona Lynch, viola; Nadia Lynch, violin.

Fort Hayes musicians include:

Aliyah Beacham, violin; Ashley Bolin, violin; Corey Bunner, tuba; Travis Clickenger, trombone; Samantha Fritchen, clarinet; Sciquan Gipson, violin; Taj Jackson, trombone; Nasia Morgan, viola; Wendy Orduna, violin; Kyra Smalls, violin; Jon Thorne, bass.

Marion Franklin musicians include:

Nick Messer, cello

Northland musicians include:

Jashawn Boswell, cello; Donavyn Harris, bass; Aleah Holley, viola; Angela Jackson, flute; Viet Nguyen, French horn; Kay Shanda, oboe; Donovan Starks, bassoon; Bradley Wine, bass.

West musicians include:

Lennon May, clarinet

Whetstone musicians include:
