Civic Theatre Announces 2011-12 Season, Includes Hairspray and Chicago

By:

Fort Wayne Civic Theatre announces the 2011-2012 season which will begin with the spirited musical Hairspray opening July 23, 2011. With a common theme of "Dreams of Fame & Fortune...Infamous Consequences," here are the colorful characters of the coming season:

Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on The Corny Collins Show in Hairspray...but finds herself in the middle of the battle against segregation.

Chicago's Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly crave the applause of the 20's Jazz Circuit yet gain notoriety in the press for their crimes of passion.

The small town radio celebrities of Tuna, Texas juggle a crew of zany townspeople caught up in the holiday frenzy, some seeking the top prize in the annual lawn contest in A Tuna Christmas.

Mama Rose pushes her daughters to fulfill her own show biz aspirations...only to find she has pushed her family away in the Broadway classic Gypsy.

In The Farnsworth Invention Philo T. Farnsworth races towards the fame of being declared the inventor of the television while facing professional setbacks and personal demons.

Many famous and infamous characters that have called Indiana home are celebrated in Alive & Dead in Indiana.

An Indiana playwright will achieve success and a modicum of fame when the winning play is staged in June at the 3rd Annual Northeast Indiana Playwright Festival.
