Chris Botti Opens Portland Ovations 2011-2012 Season

By:

Portland Ovations opens their season with a concert by contemporary jazz trumpeter Chris Botti at Merrill Auditorium on Thursday, September 29th at 7:30pm.

An American jazz trumpeter and composer nominated for multiple Grammy Awards and winner of a Grammy Award for his collaboration with rock icon Sting, Chris Botti has established himself as a versatile musician in both jazz and pop music by his ability to easily fuse the two styles. This was evident in his 1995 solo debut titled First Wish, which combined both contemporary jazz and pop styles with a hint of art rock. Botti continues to mix diverse genres in order to create wonderfully distinct sounds that set him apart both as an artist and a composer. Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed album When I Fall In Love, Chris Botti has become the largest selling American jazz instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music and his on-going association with PBS has led to four #1 Jazz Albums, as well as multiple Gold, Platinum & Grammy Awards. Botti has worked with an array of the world's most acclaimed artists over the course of three decades in music, including Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, Yo-Yo Ma, Paul Simon and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. For his concert at Merrill Auditorium Botti will be joined by a band that has been described as, "red hot, polished, combat-proven veterans that really put on a great show." (All About Jazz.com)

Tickets for Chris Botti range from $40 to $58 for Ovations' Members and $45 to $65 for the general public. To purchase tickets, contact PortTix at 207-842-0800 or visit the box office window at Merrill Auditorium. Tickets are also available online at www.portlandovations.org.
