Chicago's Off-Air Series To Explore Political Change Through The Arts

By:

This October, the Off-Air Series will explore how theatre has proven an influential channel for political commentary and protest in countries around the globe; however, Chicago, a city that houses the largest community of grassroots theater, is lacking in politically-themed productions. Hosted by WBEZ's Natalie Moore, The Art of the Political: Can the Stage Be More Than Entertainment? will aid in the reversal of this trend with its showcase of new works on the subjects of race and class in America at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, 2433 North Lincoln Avenue, on Sunday, October 9 at 7:00pm.

Three playwrights of color will present new works, commissioned specifically for this event, and performed by select Chicago companies. The event will also feature a discussion with three industry leaders (Timothy Douglas, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company Artistic Director; Chuck Smith, Goodman Theatre Resident Director; and Chay Yew, Victory Gardens Artistic Director) reflecting on the relationship between politics and art.

Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 WBEZ members, and $10 students and are available at www.wbez.org/off-air.
