Chicago Fringe Presents MY SALVATION HAS A FIRST NAME 9/3-11

By:

New York-based writer and comedian, Robin Gelfenbien, will present her one-woman show, My Salvation Has a First Name: A Wienermobile Journey, as part of Chicago's Fringe Festival. The piece, written and performed by Gelfenbien, is based on the true story* of how she overcame years of bullying and found redemption and her true voice behind the windshield of the Wienermobile. My Salvation Has a First Name: A Wienermobile Journey runs Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4 at 10 p.m., Monday, Sept. 5 at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Dream Theatre, 556 W. 18th Street. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by visiting www.chicagofringe.org. For more information on Gelfenbien's production visit www.wienermobileshow.com.

My Salvation Has a First Name: A Wienermobile Journey premiered at the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival, where Time Out New York gave Gelfenbien's performance "4 Stars" and New York Magazine hailed it as "the highlight of the Fringe." The 60-minute performance uses music, photos and video footage from her road trip to take the audience on a touching, yet wild, ride where she faces a horndog co-pilot, a media circus and her college bully. "As crazy as it sounds, the Wienermobile saved my life. You've got to embrace salvation no matter where you find it-even if it comes in the form of a 23-foot-long fiberglass hot dog," said Gelfenbien.

Gelfenbien is a writer, storyteller and comedian currently living in New York City. She's written jokes for Rosie O'Donnell for the Matrix Awards, been featured in Marie Clare magazine, mentioned in the New York Times, and her original comedy songs have played in comedy clubs across North America and on Sirius Radio's Raw Dog Comedy Channel. Among Gelfenbien's TV credits, her favorites include VH1's Awesomely Badder Videos and a commercial directed by Spike Lee. Her radio appearances include The Wiseguy Show hosted by Vinny "Big Pussy" Pastore and WOR's The Joey Reynolds Show. Gelfenbien has told stories at the Moth, Mortified, HEEB Storytelling and on the Risk podcast. She has also performed at the Toronto and Chicago Sketch Comedy Festivals, the DC Comedy Festival and on the Saturday Night Live stage.
