Chenoweth Talks Gays, GLEE, and Future Projects!

Kristin_Chenoweth_20010101

Emmy- and Tony Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth, currently starring in Broadway's PROMISES, PROMISES, spoke to Autostraddle about her role as a Christian, her love of the gay community, 'Glee,' her Emmy win for 'Pushing Daisies,' and her dream role of playing Dolly Parton!

When asked about life after her Emmy win, Chenoweth said, "Certainly no one expected that I would come back to Broadway after the Emmy, but it's my roots and it was very important for me to do that. I'm going back to Glee and going on a concert tour soon and I'm currently working on a record in Nashville. I fly to Nashville to record my album on every day off from Promises, Promises. So, I think my mantra is 'I'll sleep when I'm dead.'"

When asked about her future plans, her reveal was a bit cryptic: "I'm actually in development for a new series right now! I can't really say what the subject matter is about, but here's the thing- I don't really have to be the 'star' of anything as long as I like my part. A lot of people looked at Promises and went 'aw, you don't have the funny role, you're so serious and dramatic' and I go, 'well, that's who I am as well.' With this new TV project, the important thing will be to cast wonderful people around me, which will be easy because there are so many great actors out there. The writing and the storylines are the most important thing, so I can't even tell you yet if I'm going to be the 'star' of the show. When I look at Pushing Daises and other shows that are successful like The West Wing and certainly Glee, there are definitely leads, but everybody's character pops. I'm not out to do a star vehicle for myself, I'm out to work with great people... cause they only make you look better... that's the secret!"

Kristin Chenoweth is well-known for her show-stealing, Tony-winning performance in YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN and her role of Glinda the Good Witch in WICKED, which earned her a leading actress Tony Award nomination. Her performance in the musical STEEL PIER earned a Theatre World award. Television fans know Chenoweth from 'The West Wing', the television adaptation of 'Annie' and 'Sesame Street.' She also starred in her own series 'Kristin' for NBC. She starred in the ABC series 'Pushing Daisies,' for which she won an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a comedy series, and has appeared on 'Ugly Betty' and GLEE. Chenoweth recently finished shooting the pilot for the legal drama 'Legally Mad' and has joined the cast of the animated comedy 'Sit Down, Shut Up.'

Moviegoers have seen her in Four Christmases, Deck the Halls, RV, Bewitched, Running with Scissors and The Pink Panther. Her voice can be heard in the animated films Space Chimps and Tinkerbell.

Chenoweth took the stage in a solo sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall in 2004 and continues to tour the country. To date, she has released three albums: A Lovely Way to Spend Christmas, Let Yourself Go and As I Am. She is currently starring opposite Sean Hayes in PROMISES, PROMISES on Broadway.
