Celebrations for Guthrie Theater 50th Anniversary Season Continue
The Guthrie Theater's 50th season was inaugurated with the Christopher Hampton Celebration: a three-play festival occupying each of the Guthrie's stages, as well as a series of talks, events and appearances by Hampton and others that demonstrated the unique opportunities afforded by the Guthrie's Mississippi riverfront facility and the engaged and dynamic Twin Cities community.
The Hampton Celebration follows the 2009 celebration of playwright Tony Kushner with: a provocative new work (Hampton: Appomattox; Kushner: The Intelligent Homosexual…), a well-known work from the playwright's oeuvre (Hampton: Tales from Hollywood; Kushner: Caroline, or Change) and an intimate work in the Guthrie's Dowling Studio (Hampton: Embers; Kushner: Tiny Kushner).
The Guthrie Theater continues its 50th anniversary season with its 38th presentation of A Christmas Carol playing through December 29 on the Wurtele Thrust Stage and its presentation of Yale Repertory Theatre's production of A Servant of Two Masters, running from December 1, 2012 to January 20, 2013 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage.
The Guthrie's upcoming season also features the world premieres of Nice Fish by two-time Tony Award winner Mark Rylance and Minnesota poet Louis Jenkins, and The Primrose Path by Crispin Whittell, in addition to Other Desert Cities and Clybourne Park, among other works. The Guthrie will look back on its legacy of excellence throughout the 2012-13 season, as well as look ahead to the next half century of theater history.
