Celebration Theatre Opens Season With 'Procelain' Starting 10/10

By:

Celebration Theatre presents the first show of its 2008-2009 Mainstage Season, Porcelain. Porcelain by Chay Yew opens on Friday, October 10th and runs for six weeks through Sunday, November 9th at Celebration Theatre, 7051B Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood.

Porcelain is an examination of a young man’s crime of passion. Triply scorned- as an Asian, a homosexual, and now a murderer- nineteen-year-old John Lee has confessed to shooting his lover in a public lavatory in London . A winner of the London Fringe Award for Best Play, PORCELAIN dissects the crime through a prism of conflicting voices: newscasts, flashbacks and John’s own recollections to a prison psychiatrist.

PORCELAIN will be directed by Celebration Theatre Resident Director, Michael Matthews.  At Celebration Theatre, Matthews has also directed STUPID KIDS, BEAUTIFUL THING (2007 Ovation

Nominations, Best Director and Best Play) and the Los Angeles Premiere of FOUR.  His other credits include: DEAD END (Assistant Director) Ahmanson Theatre and THE CHERRY ORCHARD (Assistant Director) Mark Taper Forum. Chicago: WHAT'S WRONG WITH ANGRY? (2006 Jeff Nominations, Best Director and Best Production), IN THE BLOOD (2004 Jeff Nominations, Best Director and Best Production), and the Chicago Premiere of THE JUDAS KISS all with Circle Theatre, BEING 11 (World Premiere) with Serendipity at Victory Gardens, ...for colored girls who have considered suicide, Journeymen Theatre.  Matthews served as the Artistic Director of Celebration Theatre from 2005-2008.

The scenic design is by Kurt Boetcher. The lighting design is by Tim Swiss.   PORCELAIN is being produced by Jason Moyer. Celebration Theatre’s Artistic Director is Michael A. Shepperd.  Celebration’s Managing Director is Michael Kricfalusi.

PORCELAIN opens on Friday, October 10th and runs for five weeks through Sunday, November 9th. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 3pm. Ticket prices are $20.00 for all performances.

PORCELAIN will perform at Celebration Theatre, 7051B Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. For Tickets, please call 323-957-1884.
