According to a report by the Toronto Star, TV series Road to Avonlea star Cedric Smith will likely play the Wizard in Mirvish and Andrew Lloyd Webber's upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.

The Wicked Witch of the West is rumored to be played by Lisa Horner (My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding), Glinda by Robin Evan Willis (Shaw Festival), the Lion by playwright Lee MacDougall (High Life), the Tin Man choreographer Mike Jackson, the Scarecrow, Jamie McKnight (Canadian Tenors), Auntie Em by stage star Charlotte Moore and Uncle Henry by Larry Mannell.

The leading talent chosen to play Dorothy remains unannounced but could be scouted through a reality TV series, much like Andrew Lloyd Webber's hunt for Jesus in "Superstar."

The Wizard of Oz is set to open in January 2013. More information about casting and production developments will be announced shortly.
